Syria.. Appointment of Murhaf Abu Qasra as Minister of Defense

SANA – Damascus:
The new administration in Syria confirmed in a statement the appointment of Murhaf Abu Qasra as Minister of Defense in the interim government.
Abu Qasra is a senior leader in the factions that overthrew former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Abu Qasra is also known by his military name, “Abu Hassan al-Hamawi.” The official Syrian News Agency (SANA) stated, “The General Command announces the appointment of Major General Engineer Mr. Murhaf Abu Qasra as Minister of Defense in the new government of the Syrian Arab Republic.” Abu Qasra was promoted to the rank of “Major General” two days ago in a decree issued by the new leader of the administration in Syria, Ahmed Al-Sharaa.
Abu Qasra (41 years old) has been in charge of the military leadership of the “Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham” group, which, along with other factions, led the attack that overthrew Bashar al-Assad on December 8. During an interview with Agence France-Presse on December 17, Abu Qasra used his real name for the first time instead of his military name, “Abu Hassan al-Hamwi,” in reference to the Hama region (central) from which he comes from.
Meanwhile, French Minister of Defense and Armed Forces, Sebastien Lecornu, said yesterday (Tuesday) that France carried out missile strikes early this week in Syria targeting ISIS sites.
Lecornu wrote on the “X” platform: “On Sunday, the French Air Force carried out targeted strikes on ISIS sites in Syrian territory.”
