A new triple summit that brings together China and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, and ten countries from the Southeast Asian Association: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia, currently May 26-27 in Malaysia in the capital, Kuala Lumpur, where its first sessions were held in Riyadh in October 2023.
The ASEAN Summit is a vital platform to discuss regional issues and global challenges, such as terrorism, piracy and marine security, including the latest developments in free trade negotiations, and discussing the high customs duties that were affected by six countries out of ten countries of East Asia in particular because they depend on export, where the fees reached a rate ranging between 32 % and 49 %.
This meeting is a great opportunity to enhance economic ties, and to reshape relations between prominent economic blocs such as the Southeast Asian Association, the Arab Gulf states and the People’s Republic of China, in line with the interests and common vision of diversifying the economy, the recovery of investments and attention to green technology to combat climate change.
China plays an important role in strengthening the partnership between ASEAN and the Gulf Cooperation Council by virtue of its friendly relationship with both parties and its strategic partnerships, as it seeks to make the summit success through (Belt and Road Initiative), whose most important targets are to enhance trade exchange and accelerate the growth of the economy, by removing many customs restrictions, and seeking infrastructure projects, to build logistical and commercial networks Security is safe.
The Chinese side is the Prime Minister, Mr. Li Qiang, who in turn emphasizes China’s position in its war against customs definitions through this platform, and China also provides support to member states to achieve digital transformation.
ASEAN Summit is one of the most important regional meetings to consolidate economic, political and international relations and confront developments in the international scene and the transformations of the global economy, in which Malaysia will play a major role in shaping relations between the parties participating in the summit at a relatively sensitive time, to adopt a bridge of cooperation and common gains.
