The search for victims of a quarry collapse in Indonesia and the number of deaths to 17

Jakarta – Agencies:
The Research and Rescue Agency reported that the Indonesian authorities will continue to search for eight people who are still trapped due to the rock collapse that occurred in a quarry in the city of Serbon, West Java, on Friday.
The agency said that the death toll according to the families of the victims reached 17 in addition to six injured, noting that the outcome is not final.
Didi Molly, the governor of the Western Java region, described his account on Instagram as a dangerous site “and does not meet the safety standards for workers.”
In a statement, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources announced that it will achieve the cause of the collapse and will conduct an evaluation to determine whether any other landslides are likely to occur. Mohamed Wafid, head of the Ministry’s geological body, said in a statement that the Serbon region is exposed to the soil movement, especially when the rate of precipitation is higher than normal, while the collapse area has a sharp slope.
He added that the drilling method used in the open mining area and the sharp slope is perhaps one of the reasons that led to the collapse.
