Mental waste … and when we live with what is no longer beneficial

Manal Al -Husaini
We do not need someone who hurts us from the outside, when some of our thoughts are enough to besiege our awareness from the inside, so there is something that accumulates in minds silently, it is repeated as wisdom, and it is treated as a fact, while in its essence it is closer to the intellectual waste that has not been reviewed and has not been revised, but it is inherited and repeated until its name increases with time.
Mental waste is not devastating ideas, but they are ideas that were consumed until a note, and they continued to circulate until they were habit, without going through the balance of logic or the moment of the moment:
Is it still beneficial?
We hear some of them say: “Today’s generation is unable to take responsibility.” It was said like her about yesterday’s generation, and before them about the pre -technology generation, pre -education, and pre -printing and history restores itself, and the strange thing is that we repeat the phrase as if every generation was born to disappoint from it before, while the truth is that life does not retreat, but rather changes … and who does not change with it, he sees it as a break of the familiar.
When we mimic the new generation in an ancient offensive language, we do not protect values, but rather an understanding.
And when we describe the technique as the cause of the corruption of values, we turn a blind eye to our responsibility in building an awareness that is better used instead of fearing it.
The girl who chooses an unconventional specialization is not a victim of an extraneous culture, and the young man who expresses himself via the Internet according to legal controls, not according to inherited controls, not every inherited legacy that the Sharia truly brought means that it is without responsibility.
And many of the examples that occurred again, we denounce it because they are updated, and we blame a generation that will continue the march with the deficiency and lack of responsibility because he was born in a digital time and we forgot that we were born in the time of electricity and attributed to us luxury from those who preceded us not for their ignorance but because everything new appears to be suspicious, so every invention is born .. He is born with a new generation and a new vision and the problem is not in the same change but in the deficiency His concern.
But the mental waste, when it accumulates, makes us misunderstand everything new, and defend old ideas as if they were not changed. The philosopher John Dewey mentioned that “people do not change their thoughts when the truth is told, but when they feel that the old idea is no longer worked.”
Here is the essence of the issue, we are not against the past, but the past is not an eternal standard.
We ourselves criticized us from our predecessors, and we objected to some of what we inherited, and modified it.
Why do we fear that we will be reconsidered today?
Why are we angry at the question?
Why do we consider change a betrayal?
Mental waste is not exclusive to a generation without a generation, nor a layer without another.
It infiltrates the father’s speech, who loves his children, but restricts their choices for fear of “people”.
It appears in the school that refuses to renew under the pretext of “the level of descends”, without reviewing its tools.
And in the employee who disrupts the initiatives because he sees that “the routine is guaranteed.”
In the official who prefers to repeat what others did, instead of venturing an idea that suits his time.
All of these are not opponents, but they need a simple awareness:
What was useful in the past does not necessarily mean that it is now suitable.
What we see today is strange, it may become familiar, but rather necessary.
Societies were rejected by girls ’education, refused the presence of women at work, and then today she is celebrating their distinction in every field.
And so is life, do not stop reviewing itself.
Mental hygiene is no less important than physical hygiene.
Just as we choose our food, and we choose what we wear carefully, we have to clean our minds from the inherited phrases that are said not for anything, except because they were “said”.
We have to have courage to ask:
Where did this conviction come from?
Is it still suitable for me?
Do you serve me or restrict me?
The clean mind is not full, but is able to give up what is no longer beneficial according to the controls of Sharia.
The value is not measured by its stability, but rather its ability to remain alive, at a time that changes every day.
The truth is that our religion is valid for every time and place, and it was never trapped for centuries.
