Britain restores diplomatic relations with Syria

The British government announced yesterday, Saturday, the restoration of diplomatic relations with Syria, during the first ministerial visit in 14 years. Syrian President Ahmed Al -Shara and his foreign minister, Asaad Al -Shaibani, met with the Syrian capital, Damascus, British Foreign Minister David Lami. The two sides discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to enhance dialogue and cooperation in various fields of common concern and regional and international developments. Lami stressed his country’s support for the Syrian government in implementing its obligations towards the international community, and said: I saw the remarkable progress made by the Syrians in rebuilding their lives and country. The British government announced an additional package of 94.5 million pounds to provide urgent humanitarian aid to Syria.
On the other hand, Syrian President Ahmed Al -Shara in Damascus received yesterday the delegation of Dar Al -Fatwa for the Lebanese Republic, headed by the Mufti of Lebanon, His Eminence Sheikh Abdul Latif Drian.
