The conflict in Sudan is the largest humanitarian crisis and forced displacement in the world

During his briefing before the UN Security Council yesterday, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for the African Union, Parfait Onanga-Anyanga, warned of the escalation and complexity of conflicts in some regions of the African continent, noting that the ongoing conflict in Sudan represents the largest humanitarian crisis and forced displacement in the world, welcoming recent diplomatic efforts to end it.
This came at the regular UN Security Council meeting on cooperation between the United Nations and regional organizations, including the African Union.
For her part, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations for Africa, Martha Poppe, explained that Security Council Resolution No. 2719 represents an important step to fill a long-term gap in the peace and security structure of the African Union. With the aim of enhancing its ability to respond to armed conflicts with the support of the international community.
For his part, the Permanent Representative of the African Union to the United Nations, Mohamed Idris, stressed that Africa faces an unprecedented network of security threats, calling for strengthening international cooperation to confront these challenges in Libya, the Sahel region, West and East Africa, and in Sudan, the Congo, and the Great Lakes region, praising the strength of the partnership between the African Union and the United Nations, which is built on the principle of complementarity.
