Recognition of the Palestinian state is a matter of time

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaishi said, during a parliamentary session, that her country has entered the stage of studying the date of recognition of a Palestinian state.
In response to a question about whether Japan would follow the steps of other countries in recognizing Palestine as a state, Takaishi explained: “We will comprehensively study the most effective timing and the appropriate mechanism for recognition.”
She added, “The discussion is no longer about whether Japan will recognize a Palestinian state, but rather about when this will happen.”
Takaishi reaffirmed Japan’s adherence to the two-state solution as a way to settle the conflict between the Palestinians and the Israelis.
It is noteworthy that about 80 percent of the member states of the United Nations recognized the State of Palestine, as a group of countries, including Britain, Canada and France, added their names, about two years after the war on Gaza.
