The United Nations adopts a resolution demanding that Israel withdraw from the Golan

Agencies – New York:
The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution demanding that Israel withdraw from the Golan Heights, which it occupied in 1967 and annexed in 1981. The resolution was adopted by a majority of 123 votes in favor and seven votes against, including Israel and the United States, and 41 members abstained from voting.
The Golan Heights is a strategic rocky plateau, about 60 kilometers long and 25 kilometers wide.
Israel seized it in 1967 and annexed it in 1981, but this was not recognized internationally.
The association’s decision stated that Israel’s decision in 1981 “to impose its laws, authority and administration on the occupied Syrian Golan is invalid” and called for its cancellation.
