Senegalese coach Aliou Cisse announced his resignation from coaching the Libyan national football team, even though his contract was extending until 2027, through an official statement he published on his social media accounts, confirming the end of his career with the “Knights of the Mediterranean.”
Cisse explained that last March represented his last stop with the national team, describing his experience as a “very rich adventure” on both the professional and personal levels, noting that he did not want to leave without sending a farewell message.
Cisse did not reveal the real reason behind his resignation, while reports indicated that the reason for the resignation was the delay in his financial benefits for several months, which is likely one of the main reasons that prompted him to decide to leave the leadership of the Libyan national team.
The Senegalese coach sent a message to the technical staff and players, in which he expressed his pride in what was achieved despite the challenges, saying that he believes in the team’s capabilities and is confident in continuing its progress during the next stage.
He also addressed the Libyan fans with a message of thanks, appreciating the warm reception and great support he received, stressing that he will not forget those feelings, and that the team will continue to be able to rely on its fans.
Cisse concluded his statement by wishing the Libyan national team success in the upcoming competitions. While the Libyan Football Association has not yet published any clarification statement.
Cisse took over as the coach of the Libyan national team in March 2025, and played 10 matches with the Libyan national team, during which he achieved 3 victories, 5 draws, and 2 defeats.
