The attacker of the White House Correspondents’ Party appears before the court news

American Cole Thomas Allen (31 years old) is scheduled to appear before a federal court in Washington, today, Monday, after he attempted to penetrate security measures during the annual dinner of the White House Correspondents’ Association, at which President Donald Trump was among his attendees.

American authorities say that Allen tried to penetrate the security cordon inside the Washington Hilton Hotel on Saturday evening, before he shot a member of the Secret Service charged with protecting the US President, former presidents, presidential candidates, and other important figures.

Initial investigations confirmed that the bullet hit the security officer, but his bulletproof vest prevented him from being seriously injured, and he left the hospital a few hours after the incident.

Plans to target officials

The authorities revealed that the suspect left a statement with his family members, in which he described himself as a “friendly federal killer,” and also talked about plans to target officials in the Trump administration “from the highest to the lowest rank,” according to what was reported by American media.

Investigations reported that the accused booked a room inside the hotel before arriving in Washington by train from California via Chicago, which investigators considered an attempt to evade the controls imposed on air travel.

In his first comment on the incident, Trump said in an interview broadcast on CBS on the “60 Minutes” program: “I did not feel anxious. I understand life. We live in a crazy world.”

During another interview with Fox News, the US President described the attacker as a “very deranged person” and that he wrote a statement that was “strongly anti-Christian.”

This attack highlighted previous attempts to target Trump, as he survived two assassination attempts during his 2024 presidential campaign.

The first attempt was during an election rally in Pennsylvania, when he sustained minor injuries to his ear, while the second attempt was foiled near a golf course in Florida, after it was revealed that there was a weapon hidden inside the course.

Discussing the security protocol

Reuters quoted a senior White House official as saying that White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles will hold a meeting this week regarding presidential security.

A White House official told CNN that Wiles will meet with the White House Operations Team, the US Secret Service, and leadership at the Department of Homeland Security to discuss security protocol for major events in which Trump participates.

According to the official, the meeting will discuss the procedures and operations that succeeded in thwarting the assassination attempt on Saturday, and search for additional options to ensure that all concerned parties do their best to secure the events in which the US President participates.

The meeting will also discuss plans to secure major events being prepared to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, an anticipated national occasion that is expected to witness broad participation by the President and his administration.

The official confirmed that Trump and the White House stand by the leadership of the Secret Service.
