An upcoming session of the Security Council on Yemen today

Today, Monday, the Security Council holds its monthly meeting on the matter Yemen, To discuss military and humanitarian developments, in addition to the developments and challenges of the mediation efforts led by the United Nations in order to revive the stalled peace process in the country.

According to the temporary work program of the Security Council, the meeting will begin with a briefing session followed by closed consultations, and Hans Grundberg, the UN envoy, a representative of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, and Major General Michael Beary, head of the United Nations Mission to Support the Hodeidah Agreement (UNMHA), will present Briefings on developments in the country.

It is expected that the briefing of the UN envoy will include his mediation efforts between the parties to the conflict and regional and international actors in order to establish an official ceasefire as a prelude to starting a comprehensive negotiated political process under the mediation of the United Nations to achieve sustainable peace in the country, according to the “Yemen Future” media platform.

He may also touch on his recent visit to Beijing and his meetings with Chinese officials, which he said come “in the context of working with the five permanent members of the Security Council to ensure coordinated international support towards lasting peace in Yemen.”

While the representative of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, in his briefing to the Council, will provide an update on the challenges facing relief efforts, including interference in the delivery of aid, access restrictions, the dangerous security environment, and its negative impact on relief operations, in addition to the latest developments regarding the rescue operation. During the consultations, Michael Beary, head of the United Nations Mission in Support of the Hudaydah Agreement, will provide an update on the mission’s demining activities and the need for international support to clear landmines and explosive remnants of war in Yemen, which continues to claim more civilian casualties.
