I’m not going to give you $6 billion like Joe did!
The American billionaire owner of the “Twitter” platform, Elon Musk, mocked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after the latter followed him on “Twitter”, where Musk replied to him by saying: “I will not give you $ 6 billion as Joe did,” referring to President Biden. The tweet gained wide circulation and 10 million views.
The Pentagon has admitted that it overestimated the value of weapons sent to Ukraine by $6.2 billion over the past two years, about double early estimates, resulting in a surplus that will be used for future security assistance. This was stated by Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh, in a previous press conference, where she said that “a detailed review of the accounting error found that the military services used replacement costs instead of the book value of the equipment that was withdrawn from the Pentagon’s stocks and sent to Ukraine.”
She added that the final accounts show an error of $3.6 billion in the current fiscal year, and $2.6 billion in the 2022 fiscal year, which ended on September 30, according to US media. As a result, the department now has additional funds in its coffers to use to support Ukraine, which continues its counteroffensive against Russia.
The unspent aid would mitigate the need for Congress to approve more aid to Ukraine before the fiscal year ends in September.
The revelation comes as Ukraine is moving forward with the early stages of its counter-offensive, in an attempt to expel Russian forces from the territories Moscow has controlled since the war began in February 2022.
