News of Israeli agreement to a limited ground invasion of Lebanon news

The newspaper “Israel Today” said that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Galant agreed last week to accept steps that include the introduction of forces into Lebanon.

The newspaper explained that there is a consensus within the political system in Israel to launch a limited ground invasion into Lebanon.

The newspaper indicated that Israel’s readiness for ground action would leave room for negotiations to remove Hezbollah fighters from the border with a written agreement, according to the newspaper.

“Israel Today” also quoted Gallant as saying, “If we do not reach a reliable agreement, we must enter Lebanon and determine the facts on the ground.” He threatened Iran, “If you test us, you will be harmed, and we will know how to confront you.”

In turn, Bloomberg newspaper quoted Israeli officials as saying that the Israeli army is preparing for a possible ground operation in Lebanon, and that Hezbollah still possesses military capabilities and missiles, but it may need time to respond.

The army is ready

Maariv newspaper had quoted Israeli sources as saying that the decision for the ground operation in Lebanon had not been taken yet, and confirmed that the army was ready for it.

The sources said that the ground operation in Lebanon will be limited once it is approved.

In the same context, ABC quoted American officials as saying that Israel has begun or is about to begin small-scale border movements inside Lebanon.

Earlier, CNN quoted an American official as saying, “It is possible that Israel will launch a limited ground operation in Lebanon while moving forces to the northern border.”

The New York Times also quoted officials as saying that US President Joe Biden informed Netanyahu that the assassination of Nasrallah might ignite a regional war, and asked him to halt his fire.

In turn, the Washington Post quoted American officials as saying that Washington had warned that a ground invasion of Lebanon might backfire.

The officials pointed out that the Israeli operations destroyed Lebanese Hezbollah as an organization, and that the most immediate danger is how Iran will choose to respond to the assassination of Nasrallah.

A massive war

Yesterday, Saturday, the Israeli army announced its readiness for a broader war, and said that a ground operation was an option, indicating that Hezbollah could still fire on Israel. Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy said that difficult days await Israel.

This comes after the assassination of the Secretary-General of the Lebanese Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, in an Israeli raid last Friday evening, which also resulted in the killing of prominent leaders in the party and a commander in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

In the same context, White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said on Sunday that Israel will not be able to safely return its residents to their homes in northern Israel by waging an all-out war with Hezbollah or Iran.

Kirby added to CNN that the United States continues to hold talks with Israel about the next correct steps in Lebanon.
