The United Nations warned of the consequences of a “large-scale ground invasion” carried out by Israel in Lebanon, as the Israeli army launched a “limited” ground operation in the south of the country against Hezbollah. The spokeswoman for the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Liz Throssell, said in A press statement said, “Armed violence between Israel and Hezbollah has escalated, and the consequences for civilians are already terrible.” She added: “We fear that a large-scale Israeli ground invasion in Lebanon will exacerbate the suffering.”
She added that the Commission is “very concerned about the expansion of hostilities in the Middle East, and the fact that it threatens to drag the entire region into a humanitarian and human rights catastrophe.”
Throssell warned: “The risks of seeing the situation deteriorate further, with dire consequences for civilians and seeing the situation quickly spread to other countries in the region; “These are real risks.”
