In light of the growing Saudi role regionally and internationally, and in a step that reflects the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to international multilateral work and its orientations towards the future, the Council of Ministers expressed in its last session its great aspirations towards the “Charter of the Future” approved by the recent United Nations summit in its main meeting.
The Kingdom sees in this charter an unprecedented opportunity to achieve a qualitative transformation in the international system, which contributes to strengthening the foundations of justice and equity among countries, and motivates the world to accelerate the achievement of sustainable development goals. This aspiration comes within the framework of the Kingdom’s vision for international cooperation as a basic foundation for achieving stability and prosperity on the planet. At the regional and international levels for the sake of a just and equitable international system,
The “Charter for the Future” represents a valuable opportunity to reshape the international system in a way that enhances justice, fairness and objectivity. This also comes in the context of escalating global challenges that require concerted international efforts more than ever before. The Kingdom believes that the current international system needs to be updated to be more equal and credible among the relevant institutions and peoples, and to respond better to the needs of all countries, especially those emerging ones facing… Major economic and social challenges, causing it to face a reality that distances it from development plans and drowns in useless problems…!
This position on the Charter is in line with the principles adopted by the Kingdom, which has always called for the promotion of international justice and equal opportunities among countries.
The major economic and political transformations that the world is witnessing, from climate change to economic crises, intellectual transformations, and scientific development, require rethinking how to organize international relations in a way that promotes sustainable development and achieves the interests of everyone without exception.
Within the framework of this approach, the Saudi international vision and approach are based on the importance of supporting emerging economies as an essential part of the Future Charter, because the Kingdom believes that these economies play a vital role in enhancing the stability of the global financial system. Emerging countries also need an international environment that supports their growth and helps them overcome challenges, whether related to finance, technology, or energy.
As usual, the Kingdom, through its sense of responsibility in its interaction with countries and bodies in need, is constantly working to encourage these countries and institutions to engage more in the global economy, and to provide opportunities that allow them to contribute effectively to the global financial system.
Among the important topics highlighted by the Kingdom in its interaction with the UN Charter is the issue of bridging the digital gap between countries, in a world that is increasingly dependent on technology, as the digital gap is one of the major obstacles to achieving sustainable development in many developing countries.
The Kingdom sees the “Future Charter” as an opportunity to encourage international cooperation in order to provide technology and digital infrastructure to all countries, which contributes to enhancing their ability to keep pace with digital transformations and achieve full benefit from the digital economy.
One of the most prominent points he highlighted was the pivotal role that the “Charter for the Future” can play in accelerating the achievement of sustainable development goals. These goals, set by the United Nations in 2015, are a global plan to improve human conditions and protect the environment by 2030. The Kingdom, in turn, is considered one of the leading countries in supporting these goals, and always seeks to implement programs and initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable development within and outside its borders.
In conclusion, the Kingdom’s aspiration for the “Future Charter” expresses its belief in the importance of international collective action in confronting global challenges. We saw how the Saudi Council of Ministers placed this charter in a broader context that aims to achieve a more just and equitable international system that supports emerging economies, bridges the digital divide, and accelerates the achievement of sustainable development goals. The Kingdom, with its strategic directions, always seeks to build a common future that enhances stability and prosperity for all.
We all hope that the United Nations will carry out its international roles according to an approach that gives peoples a life and prosperity that helps them build societies and achieve their desired goals according to programs and mechanisms that keep pace with changes and overcome challenges to create a civilizational achievement worthy of the local and international community.
