“Al Jazeera” – Agencies:
The Israeli army announced on Thursday the killing of Yahya Sinwar, leader of the Hamas movement, in an operation carried out in the southern Gaza Strip on Wednesday.
Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported that Hamas leaders Mahmoud Hamdan and Hani Hamidan were killed along with Sinwar, while Israeli Channel 12 said that the killing of Sinwar was not planned in advance. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu commented on the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in an Israeli operation in Gaza that Israel has “settled its score” with him. Netanyahu stressed that the war is not over yet and said that we will continue with full force until the prisoners are returned. Netanyahu pledged not to attack the captors of the prisoners in Gaza if they release them, and said that anyone who surrenders his weapons and helps in returning the prisoners will be allowed to leave. Gaza is safe. Netanyahu stressed that “Hamas will not rule Gaza,” and directed his speech to the residents of Gaza, saying: “Sinwar destroyed your lives.” He promised that the killing of Sinwar provides an opportunity to bring peace to the Middle East, and he also considered it an “important milestone” in the decline of Hamas. For his part, US President Joe Biden said in his comment on the killing of Sinwar: It is a good day for Israel, America and the world, and he added that there is now an opportunity for the future of Gaza without Hamas in power. He stressed that the Hamas movement is no longer able to carry out another attack like the attack on October 7, adding that He will soon speak with Netanyahu to discuss returning the prisoners and ending the war, considering the killing of Sinwar an opportunity for a settlement between the Palestinians and the Israelis.
US Vice President Kamala Harris also considered that this moment provides an opportunity to end the Gaza war, and said: “It is time for a new beginning in Gaza without Hamas in power.”
