World leaders congratulate Trump… and Ukrainian concerns

Words of congratulations poured in from world leaders to US President-elect, Donald Trump, after he announced, on Wednesday, his victory in the presidential elections that took place on November 5. Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Prime Minister, congratulated Trump on his “historic” return to the White House. He added that Trump’s return to the White House “offers a new beginning for America, and represents a strong recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America.”
The Secretary-General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Mark Rutte, also congratulated Donald Trump, stressing that his return to power would help keep the alliance “strong.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated Donald Trump on his “astonishing victory,” expressing his hope that his election would help Ukraine achieve a “just peace.”
In the same context, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock congratulated President-elect Trump after announcing his victory in the White House, stressing that he will remain a “reliable ally” of Germany. Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Wednesday that Donald Trump’s victory in the US elections might be bad news for Ukraine, adding that it was not yet clear to what extent Trump would reduce US funding for the war. Trump announced his victory in the 2024 presidential elections over Democratic Party candidate Kamala Harris.
