Tweeters raise questions after an Azerbaijani plane crashed in Kazakhstan news
The crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines plane near the city of Aktau, western Kazakhstan, has captured widespread attention among activists and pioneers of social media platforms, especially with the recurrence of aviation accidents in recent years.
Yesterday, Wednesday, the Kazakh authorities announced the death of 35 people and the survival of 32 others in the crash of a civilian passenger plane belonging to Azerbaijan Airlines, which attempted to make an emergency landing near the city of Aktau.
The lenses accurately and closely documented the turbulent flight of the Azerbaijani plane in its last moments, as the scenes of its fall, crash, and explosion appeared horrific and catastrophic, while one of the passengers documented with his phone the last moments before the fall, and his joy and rejoicing after his survival.
The plane – an Embraer 190 – was carrying 67 passengers – the majority of whom were from Azerbaijan and Russia – including its crew of 5 people.
The plane’s flight was supposed to start from the airport of the Azerbaijani capital, Baku, to Grozny Airport, the capital of Chechnya, a distance of 485 kilometers, in a journey that would take one hour and 10 minutes.
The plane completely disappeared from radars near the city of Kaspiysk in Dagestan, only 170 kilometers from Grozny Airport, before reappearing on radars again, but it moved completely away from its normal course, and was flying at the time deep into the Caspian Sea.
The plane’s path appeared to be very unstable, which indicates that it was involved in an unknown accident that caused the crew to lose control of it, and it fell and crashed near Aktau Airport.
Questions looking for answers
This incident received widespread interaction on social media platforms, some of which were monitored by the “Shabakat” program in its episode on (12/26/2024), amid differences in opinions, comments, and the reasons for the plane’s downing.
Abu Aseel said in his tweet, “In this case, do not philosophize as a pilot. Get the plane down in the nearest fast lane. Why should it go back up when you see it flying without engines?”
Hassan also asked, “Why did the pilot not choose to land on the sea even though the sea is very close to where the plane fell,” noting that “the sea is considered less harmful than the land if such a thing happens?”
In turn, Fahd said, “There is supposed to be a parachute for the passengers. If there is a defect, they all get down. It is not reasonable for them to spend half an hour while the pilot tries while they are sitting and waiting for it to fall.”
Umm Aman denounced the flight attendants’ interest in safety instructions before planes take off and their failure to apply them in the case of the Azerbaijani plane. She said, “Every time we board the plane, they hit us in the head with the safety instructions and the flight attendant’s movements, and he explains to us how to use parachutes. So, why didn’t they use them? What is their condition (what is their condition?) in the middle of the plane.” And the panic and screaming? Oh Lord, have mercy on us.”
In turn, Azerbaijan Airlines published a statement saying that the plane collided with a flock of birds, forcing its crew to make an emergency landing in Aktau, but it quickly deleted the statement.
After that, the Azerbaijani Public Prosecution said that it could not reveal any results of the investigation at the present time, and that it was investigating all possible scenarios, while the Public Prosecutor in Kazakhstan announced that the black box of the plane, which contained a recording of the entire flight data, had been found.
But Reuters quoted sources in Azerbaijan that the Azerbaijani plane that crashed in Kazakhstan was shot down by a Russian air defense system.
