Mourinho admits the biggest mistake of his coaching career sports

Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho, Fenerbahce’s Turkish coach, acknowledged his mistake when he decided to leave Spanish club Real Madrid 11 years ago, despite President Florentino Perez’s adherence to him.

Mourinho left Real Madrid in 2013 after spending 3 seasons in which he led the “Merengue” to win 3 local titles, most notably the Spanish League in the 2011-2012 season, in which the “Real Madrid” scored 100 points (a record), but the “Special One” failed to win the Champions League. Europe.

Mourinho said in an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport: “When I decided to leave Real Madrid, Perez told me, ‘Don’t leave now. You have done the hardest part with the team, and now is the time for success.’”

The Portuguese added: “I knew at the time that it was like this (success) and staying was the right decision, but I wanted to return to Chelsea after 3 difficult years in Spain. It was an emotional choice.”

He continued: “Saying no to Florentino Perez remains one of the biggest decisions I regret.”

This was not the only thing that Mourinho (61 years old) regretted in his coaching career, and he admitted that he had to leave Roma after the team lost the Europa League final to Sevilla in the 2022-2023 season.

In this regard, Mourinho said: “I regretted that I did not leave Roma immediately after the Europa League final. This was my mistake, but not because of the chaos caused by Anthony Taylor (the English referee).”

When asked about his ideal matches in his coaching career, he replied: “Porto’s victory over Lazio 4-1 in the Champions League semi-final. That day they scored against us after 50 seconds, then they never touched the ball, and Inter Milan’s victory over Bayern Munich 2-0 in the 2010 Champions League final.” And also Tottenham’s great victory over Manchester United 6-1, a match that could have ended with 7, 8 or 9 goals.”

At the same time, Mourinho revealed his desire to coach one of the national teams in the future, and said: “I want to play in the European Cup or the World Cup and unite a country behind its national team.”
