Al-Burhan shares the Copts of Sudan in celebrating Christmas in Omdurman news

Today, Tuesday, Sudanese Copts celebrated the Nativity of Christ in the “Mary Girgis” Church in the Al-Masalama neighborhood in the city of Omdurman, in the presence of the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Commander of the Sudanese Army, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, and a number of Sudanese officials.

Video clips posted by a fighter in the ranks of the Sudanese army on his page on the social networking site Facebook showed Al-Burhan entering the church, with attendees greeting him, some with hugs.

The Copts, including young people and the elderly, chanted Christian hymns inside the church to celebrate the holiday.

It is noteworthy that the Church of Mary George (the Orthodox Church) is one of the most prominent religious institutions that was affected by the war in the city of Omdurman, and was not spared from destruction and random bombing.

The Rapid Support Forces entered it in July 2023, looted the bishopric’s treasury at gunpoint, and opened fire on those inside the church, resulting in casualties, before they withdrew from it in December of the same year.

Christians around the world celebrate the birth of Christ on different dates, starting on December 23 of each year, noting that there is no accurate evidence to confirm the date of his birth.
