The UN envoy to Syria calls for the lifting of economic sanctions imposed on Damascus

Gear Pederson, the United Nations Special Envoy in Syria, called for the lifting of economic sanctions imposed on Syria. “We must stop what Israel is doing in Syria because it plays with fire,” Pederson said in a session held at the Antalya Diplomatic Forum in Türkiye.
He pointed out that he is “a good dialogue with the Syrian government, and the international community must help her successfully.”
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed to his Syrian counterpart, Ahmed Al -Shara, that Türkiye will continue its diplomatic efforts to lift international sanctions imposed on Syria, in a statement issued by the Turkish presidency. The statement added that Erdogan stressed during his meeting with the Sharia at the Antalya Diplomatic Forum in Türkiye, the need to intensify efforts to enhance trade and economic cooperation with Syria, and that Türkiye will continue to provide support to it to restore stability.
