A Tunisian court requires 34 -year -old imprisonment for “the case of travel” | news

Al -Jazeera correspondent reported that a Tunisian court sentenced Ali Al -Aidh to be sentenced to the former Tunisian prime minister and vice -president of the Renaissance Party to 34 years in prison in what is known as “the issue of travel.”

The Defense Authority for Ali Al -Aidi said that its commissioner who was imprisoned in Tunisia since 2022 was subjected to a distance trial without any of the accused.

The Ennahda Movement party denied in a statement accusing terrorism, describing the decision against Al -Areed as a political attack on one of the opponents of President Qais Said “to cover up the catastrophic failure in the elections,” and demanded the release of Al -Areed.

It is noteworthy that Al -Areed held the position of Prime Minister and Minister of Interior during the reign of Al -Nahda after the revolution, and he is detained since September 22, 2022 on charges of traveling young people to fight during the revolution in Syria.

The investigation of this case began after July 25, 2021, after President Qais Saeed took control of wide powers in 2021 when the elected parliament later dissolved and the ruling began with decrees, before dozens of judges isolated and the Supreme Judicial Council reports.

This case includes, along with the wide, about 800 people, most of whom are from the Renaissance movement based on a report submitted by Parliament, and the Renaissance movement and other opposition circles question the credibility of the trials, and consider it a blatant political nature.

The opposition accuses President Saeed of undermining the democracy that was achieved after the 2011 revolution.

The opposition describes these moves as a coup, while Saeed says they are legal and necessary measures to put an end to chaos and rampant corruption.

Most of the leaders of political parties in Tunisia are in prison, including the head of the Free Constitutional Party, Abeer Moussa, and the leader of the Renaissance Movement, Rashid Ghannouchi, who are among the most prominent opponents of Saeed.

The trial sparked the right of opposition figures international criticism, which Saeed rejected this week, and said that it was “a blatant intervention in the internal affairs”.
