Unusually competitors allied and sweeping the Jordanian Engineers Syndicate elections policy

Oman- The Jordanian Engineers Syndicate elections for the year 2025 witnessed a remarkable shift in the union scene, after the “Nemo” and “White List” coalition succeeded in harvesting the seats of the Syndicate Council, including the position of captain and his deputy, in a move described as “historical” at the level of union work in Jordan.

The elections that took place – yesterday, Friday, resulted in the victory of Abdullah Ghosha, the candidate of the “unified trade union list” (the growth coalition and Al -Bayda) at the position of captain of the Engineers, while Ahmed Al -Falah won the deputy of the captain.

The coalition also won all the seats of the Syndicate Council, which were distributed as follows:

• “Nemo” stream: He obtained the Syndicate of Engineers, heads of the people of civil, mechanical, architectural, mining and mining, and deputy head of the Electrical Engineering Division.
• White List: I won the position of Deputy Syndicate of Engineers, the heads of the electrical and chemical engineering divisions, and the deputy head of the Civil Engineering Division.

Participation priority

The head of the Chemical Engineering Division, Linda Al -Hamoud, was the only woman in the new union council, at a time when Muhammad Al -Habashneh (Deputy Head of the Electrical Engineering Division) considered the youngest member.

The Jordanian Engineers Syndicate elections are held in stages, starting to elect the six engineering councils (civil, architectural, electrical, mechanical, mines and mining, chemical) where 7 members are elected for each division, and each member is entitled to run for the Syndicate Council as an actor or president for his division.

In this session, the “unified trade union list” won most of the seats of the Shaabi elections, which led to the resolution of the union’s council almost completely before its launch, and made the competition to be largely mock.

This alliance between the “growth” stream – which many see as representing the state’s directions – and the “white list” represented historically of the Islamic current and its allies, is the first of its kind in the history of the union.

“In light of the regional and local circumstances, the increasing number of engineers, high unemployment rates, and the conditions of the union funds, it has become obligatory for all unionists to stand one row to advance their union,” says Eng.

He adds – to Al -Jazeera Net – that from this standpoint the idea of ​​the unified trade union list came to lead the Engineers Syndicate on the basis of “participation, not dominant” in all its decisions, hoping everyone “standing behind the new administration and assisting the advancement and progress of the Engineers Syndicate.”

As for Wael Kawar, a member of the permanent office of Nemou Movement, he said, “The coalition experience was successful and serves the union edifice, and it is an introduction to restoring bridges of confidence among colleagues engineering among them despite the difference in views of some issues.”

Kawar pointed to many union issues and challenges that they can accomplish “together” and were discussed in the electoral program of the unified trade union list within “totalitarian visions” based on many axes.

Reservation and criticism

For his part, union activist Mohamed Siyam – to Al -Jazeera Net – said that “the new alliance is a phased necessity for the Engineers Syndicate, after the state of the rivalry that arose between the categories and union of engineers, and among them.”

It is a case – fasting – “formed after repeated failures of the previous union councils in sensitive files, such as the retirement fund crisis, unemployment waves, and the file of workers in the public sector.”

He added that, despite the “reservations” on the details of the coalition and the mechanisms of its application in its early stages, and the “violations” that marred the electoral process in the center and the branches, “it is currently not currently to call for the support of the current council, perhaps God will take place at his hands good for the union.”

He called on fasting to allow the new council to “prove goodwill and management to engineers’ affairs, instead of exhausting the internal differences between the union groups.”

Engineer Raed Al -Natsheh also reserved the union activist and member of one of the competing lists on the way the coalition is formed and the entire electoral scene, and “surprised” the scale of the media campaign that accompanied the announcement of the unified list in the elections that brought together “traditional currents and emitted the rest of the parties.”

He added, “As if the scene was pre -prepared, we were asked as engineers to participate in the elections that are predetermined by the result, as if only required digital legitimacy to an arrangement was agreed upon behind the scenes, in the absence of a complete discussion or even the question.”

He continued, “This is not a real democratic practice,” but (it is) a formal electoral weather “that empties the entitlement from its content.” And I hope that this trust will be translated into “real” performance from the new council that reflects the aspirations of all engineers, especially those who have not had the opportunity to compete.

Challenges

The new council faces, according to observers, a major challenge represented in the critical financial situation of the retirement fund, which is threatened with collapse, and observers believe that this file is the main driver of the historical alliance, as the parties seek to share the consequences of “non -popular” decisions related to the fund, instead of being tolerated individually.

At the same time, the alliance is seen as an opportunity for the “White List” to gradually return to the union scene, and an attempt to rebuild its presence, at a time when yesterday’s opponents assert that their alliance comes due to the conditions in the union and needs to synergy for everyone.

The attention remains towards the ability of the new council to overcome challenges and achieve actual reforms, or whether the inherent differences will threaten the cohesion of the alliance after the exceptional form it appeared.
