In a new step confirming the growing presence of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the international scene, its election came as head of a number of international societies and committees in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to represent a prominent station in the Kingdom’s march towards excellence in the field of creating innovation and creativity, and at the same time reflects the extent of international appreciation for its active role in multilateral work.
This election did not come from a vacuum, but rather the culmination of unremitting and continuous efforts made by the Kingdom during the past years to be a reliable and influential partner in international organizations.
It is also a reflection of the increasing confidence that Saudi Arabia has become in global forums, not only through its economic and political roles, but also through its active participation in drawing global policies in qualitative areas such as intellectual property, which represents the corner stone in the knowledge economy.
The United Nations Intellectual Property Organization is one of the most important international platforms on protecting the rights of creators, inventors and authors around the world.
The presidency of the Kingdom of a number of its committees and associations is an international recognition of Saudi Arabia’s ability to contribute to the development of global policies, and its management of international dialogue on intellectual property in a balanced and comprehensive way, taking into account the diversity of views and respects the aspirations of peoples and countries towards growth and innovation.
In recent years, the Kingdom has witnessed a qualitative boom in the field of intellectual property protection, which was evident in the establishment of the “Saudi Intellectual Property Commission” in 2018, which started with a clear vision that: that the Kingdom be a stimulating environment for innovation and creativity through an integrated system of intellectual property.
Since its establishment, the commission has been keen to build the necessary legislative and regulatory structure, and to raise societal awareness of the importance of protecting intellectual rights and strengthening international partnerships, which made the Kingdom a role model.
The past years have been characterized by the adoption of advanced systems and legislation to protect patents, copyright, brands, and industrial designs.
A number of national initiatives were also launched to spread the culture of innovation, support creators and entrepreneurs, facilitate their rights to registration, and ensure that they obtain the necessary legal protection.
This progress cannot be separated from the most comprehensive context of the Kingdom’s 2030 vision, which emphasized in more than one place the importance of a shift towards a sustainable knowledge economy, based on the development of human capital, stimulating innovation, and encouraging entrepreneurship.
From this standpoint, the protection of intellectual property has become one of the national priorities, because it represents a basic pillar for developing local content, creating an attractive environment for investment, and activating creative and technical industries.
Saudi leadership in this field is not limited to interior, but also extends to contributing to the formulation of global trends related to intellectual property.
Among the most prominent features of this contribution is the Kingdom’s hosting of a number of specialized international meetings and forums, and its active membership in the technical committees affiliated with the World Organization, and its participation in drawing fair and comprehensive policies that enhance the protection of rights and support the balance between creators and societies.
The Kingdom’s election as head of a number of international committees in WIPO would enhance the presence of the Saudi Intellectual Property Commission as a regional reference in this field, as it reflects the credibility of the national model in protection and legislation, and gives the Kingdom a broader opportunity to influence the future of intellectual property worldwide.
This achievement is also an additional catalyst for Saudi innovators, university students, entrepreneurs, artists, and researchers, to continue their projects with confidence, and they know that there is an advanced system that protects their creativity, appreciates their efforts, and gives them the tools necessary to reach their production to the world markets.
This international achievement is not only a pride for the Kingdom, but rather a message to all the peoples of the world that Saudi Arabia is going on the path of development, armed with will and ambition, and believing in the value of the creative man, and its pivotal role in building a brighter future.
Intellectual property is not just a legal organization, but rather an expression of respect for creativity, appreciation for imagination, and investment in the future. This is exactly what the Kingdom represents today.
