A man found a multi-million dollar treasure on his farm. This is his story
An American man found a valuable treasure worth millions of dollars, during excavation work he was carrying out inside his corn farm in Kentucky.
The treasure that was found consists of gold coins dating back to the American Civil War, with more than 800 gold coins, valued at millions of dollars.
A report published by the British newspaper “The Guardian”, and viewed by Al Arabiya.net, said that a currency dealer published a video clip on June 9, in which he revealed this treasure, which was discovered by the American man. In the video, the unidentified man can be heard identifying $1, $10 and $20 gold coins from the lot he found, adding that the discovery was “the craziest thing ever.”
The report says that the history of these gold coins / which has been dubbed “The Great Kentucky Treasure”, dates back to the period from 1840 to 1863. The treasure consists of 1 US dollar, 10 dollars in free gold, 20 gold dollars, in addition to a few gold double liberty eagles issued in 1863.
The website (GovMint.com), which specializes in currency trading, said that this treasure contains “a very rare history … rare in all respects.”
He added, “The most amazing discovery in this treasure is about 18 P20 gold coins dating back to 1863, and it is one of the rarest currencies in the world, and this coin often reaches a six-digit amount,” that is, more than $100,000.
The coins were later certified by Numismatic Guaranty, a third-party currency certifier. According to GovMint.com, the coins showed “remarkable luster” and most were rated “extremely accurate.”
When authenticating the coins, the NGC said they may have been buried as a result of Kentucky’s declaration of neutrality during the Civil War.
Kentucky had adopted a neutral stance during the Civil War that saw many families across the state split against one another.
NGC said Jeff Garrett, a currency trader and expert on US currencies, had been contacted to deal with the treasure.
“While I am always excited when someone calls to ask for advice on a rare coin discovery, the opportunity to come into contact with this treasure is one of the highlights of my career,” Garrett said.
“The significance of this find cannot be overstated, because the staggering figure of over 700 gold dollars is a virtual time capsule of Civil War-era coins, including Dahlonega coins,” Garrett added, referring to the Georgia mint that operated from 1838 to 1861 and produced only gold coins.
