To strengthen military relations.. Russia’s Defense Minister to North Korea


The Russian Ministry of Defense announced today, Tuesday, that a Russian delegation headed by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu will visit North Korea from July 25 to 27 to participate in the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Korean people in the 1950-1953 war.

“From July 25 to 27, at the invitation of the North Korean Ministry of Defense, a Russian delegation headed by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu will visit the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea with the aim of participating in activities marking the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Korean people in the 1950-1953 national liberation war,” the ministry said.

Strengthening military relations

The ministry indicated that the visit will contribute to strengthening military relations and will become an important stage in the development of cooperation between the two countries.

‘significant moment’

In turn, the North Korean Central News Agency confirmed today, Tuesday, that “the visit of the Russian military delegation to our country will be an important moment in raising and developing the traditional Korean-Russian friendly relations in line with the requirements of the times.”

Chinese delegation to Pyongyang

Simultaneously, a Chinese delegation will head to Pyongyang, headed by CPC official Li Hongzhong, who is on the CPC’s Central Policy-Making Committee and holds a leading position in the supreme body of the Chinese parliament.

The delegation is believed to include the highest-ranking representatives from Beijing to visit Pyongyang, since the isolated country closed its borders during the COVID-19 epidemic.

The Chinese delegation will also attend celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the end of the Korean War, according to a statement by Hu Zhaoming, spokesman for the International Liaison Department of the Central Committee. The statement said Lee Hong’s visit follows an invitation from North Korea.
