Trump loses another gag order appeal in federal election conspiracy case: Latest
Why is Donald Trump back in court against E Jean Carroll?
Donald Trump has lost his latest appeal of the gag order imposed on him by Judge Tanya Chutkan in the federal election interference criminal case brought against him by Special Counsel Jack Smith.
A three-judge panel had previously upheld the gag order that forbids the former president from talking about witnesses and court staff, and 11 judges from the DC Circuit Court of Appeal have now declined to look further at the matter.
Mr Trump could still try and bring the issue before the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, the former president resumed online attacks against E Jean Carroll after the latest instalment of her defamation trial against him in New York had to be postponed on Monday over concerns about exposure to Covid-19 in both the jury and the defence team, thwarting his plans to testify.
Mr Trump’s attorney Alina Habba asked for the court to resume on Wednesday, one day after the New Hampshire presidential primary election, a request that Ms Carroll’s attorneys opposed.
US district judge Lewis Kaplan duly agreed to postpone the hearing until Wednesday morning, allowing Mr Trump to return early to his campaigning in the Granite State.

Is the Supreme Court the next stop for Trump’s gag order appeal?
Today DC Circuit Court of Appeals decision to not rehear Donald Trump’s appeal of the gag order imposed on him by Judge Tanya Chutkan is notable in that none of the judges – including the three nominated by Trump – requested a vote to rehear it.
Here’s our coverage of the previous appeals court ruling from a panel of three judges:
The former president’s next stop would be the Supreme Court, which could mean that the justices would be considering three questions related to Mr Trump’s attempts to overturn the election: can he be gagged from speaking out against witnesses in the case; is he immune from prosecution: and is he even eligible to run for office.

…and Trump responds
The former president wrote on Truth Social:
Why does Fox keep putting New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu on??? Every time I mention his name at a Rally, they BOOO like crazy. He’s all jacked up on something, but he ran for President, without having the courage to announce, and did really poorly. To have this loser on so much is really bad TV.
He also claims that his “pole” numbers against Joe Biden are better than those of Nikki Haley:

Trump loses gag order appeal in federal election case
The US Court of Appeals for DC Circuit has denied Donald Trump’s request for en banc rehearing of his appeal against the gag order in the federal January 6 case.
The gag order imposed by Judge Tanya Chutkan restricts his ability to criticise witnesses, attorneys and court personnel.
If the former president chooses to appeal the gag order further he will have to take the issue up with the Supreme Court.

Pro-Trump heckler asks Nikki Haley to marry him at New Hampshire rally
A pro-Trump heckler interrupted Nikki Haley at a New Hampshire rally on Monday, 22 January, by asking her to marry him. The former UN ambassador, who is campaigning for the Republican presidential nomination, was speaking in Salem ahead of the state’s primary when she was faced with an impromptu proposal. Ms Haley, who is married, appeared to be unimpressed as the heckler told her he’d be voting for her rival. “Oh, get out of here,” Ms Haley replied as the crowd jeered at the heckler.

“We are an institute in a powerful death penalty. We will put this on,” the 77-year-old Mr Trump blundered.
