United Nations: 100,000 people fled Lebanon towards Syria
Agencies – Geneva:
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, reported that about 100,000 people fled from Lebanon towards Syria to escape the Israeli raids.
Grande wrote on the X platform: “The number of people who crossed into Syria from Lebanon to escape the Israeli raids reached 100,000, both Lebanese and Syrians,” adding that “the flow continues.”
He added, “The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is present at 4 crossing points” to help these people. “Alongside the local authorities and the Syrian Red Crescent, the UNHCR announced on Saturday that more than 50,000 people have fled to Syria.”
The representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in the region also indicated a day earlier that the percentage of those fleeing was 80 percent of Syrians returning to their country, compared to 20 percent of Lebanese fleeing their country.
The Israeli army intensified its bombing of Lebanon as of September 23, announcing that the goal was to allow the return of residents of northern Israel who were displaced due to the exchange of fire with Hezbollah.
