South Korean police raid the president’s office
Agencies – Seoul:
South Korean police announced that they raided the office of President Yeon Suk-yul, a week after his failed attempt to impose martial law in the country, while prison authorities confirmed that former Defense Minister Kim Young-hyun attempted suicide, after being arrested in connection with this case.
The police said, in a statement received by Agence France-Presse, that “the special investigation team conducted a search in the Presidential Office, the National Police Agency, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, and the National Assembly Security Department.”
For its part, the South Korean Yonhap News Agency said that Kim, who resigned on Thursday from the position of Minister of Defense, attempted suicide inside prison, just before the judiciary officially issued an official arrest warrant against him on charges of rebellion.
The former minister is accused of playing a “decisive role during the rebellion” and “abusing his power to obstruct the exercise of rights.” Kim was arrested on Sunday, before the judiciary issued an official arrest warrant against him on Tuesday.
