The European Union suspends some sanctions imposed on Syria

European Union countries have agreed to suspend a set of sanctions imposed on Syria, including those related to energy, transportation and construction. The European Union is seeking this step to help rebuild Syria after the overthrow of President Bashar al -Assad last December.

The draft announcement «has indicated that in the framework of a gradual approach, it will be evaluated whether more penalties will be suspended in a future step.
