New York – SPA:
The UN Security Council held a ministerial meeting on the situation in the Middle East region, including the Palestinian issue, headed by France, the league president of the Council this month.
The United Nations Secretary -General Antonio Guterres said in a briefing before the Council: The two -state solution is at the risk of disappearance to the point of disappearance, and the political commitment to this long -term goal beyond ever, noting that the Middle East region is witnessing fundamental transformations.
He stressed the necessity of working collectively to ensure the achievement of justice, dignity, rights, security and permanent peace in the region.
He said: «This begins with the recognition of two basic facts: the first, that the region stands at a crossroads in history, and the second is that real and sustainable peace in the Middle East depends on a fundamental issue that the Security Council has repeatedly affirmed over decades and years, which is a two -state solution. He made an urgent appeal to the member states of the Security Council to take irreversible measures towards the implementation of a two -state solution, and not to allow the rest of the peace process. He explained that the high -level conference on the two -state solution, which will be held next June, is an important opportunity to stimulate international support, and urge member states to think creatively in the concrete steps that will take it to support the applicable two -state solution before it is too late.
