The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) denounced the Israeli occupation’s pursuit of its fighters trapped in the Rafah tunnels to liquidate them, considering this a blatant violation of the ceasefire. It said that it had made great efforts to solve their problem, but the Israeli occupation blew them up, calling on mediators to move quickly to return them.
Hamas said in a statement on Wednesday, “The brutal crime committed by the occupation by persecuting, liquidating, and arresting the Mujahideen trapped in the tunnels of the city of Rafah is a flagrant violation of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and conclusive evidence of the ongoing attempts to undermine and destroy this agreement.”
The statement added that Hamas “over the past month made great efforts with various political leaders and mediators to solve the problem of fighters and their return to their homes, and presented specific ideas and mechanisms to address this problem.”
The statement also stated that Hamas submitted this “in full communication with the mediators and the American administration in its capacity as one of the guarantors of the ceasefire agreement, but the occupation undermined all these efforts, prevailing in the language of murder, criminality, prosecution, and arrest, thwarting the efforts of the mediators who made a great effort with various international parties to put an end to the suffering of these heroic fighters.”
Hamas held the Israeli occupation “full responsibility for the lives of our mujahideen,” calling on “the mediator brothers to take urgent action to pressure the occupation to allow our children to return to their homes, as they are a unique model of sacrifice, heroism, patience, and a symbol of the dignity and freedom of the Palestinian people.”
