Saudi Arabia leads the donor countries in providing development aid
Advisor at the Royal Court and General Supervisor of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, confirmed that Saudi Arabia topped donor countries in providing official development assistance (humanitarian and developmental) to low- and middle-income countries with an amount of 26.71 billion Saudi riyals, equivalent to 7.12 billion dirhams. billion US dollars.
This came according to the data published by the Development Assistance Committee of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, which shows official development assistance provided by donor countries in 2021 (member states, and countries with associate membership in the Development Assistance Committee), as the committee is the largest forum for countries. The donor is based in the French capital, Paris.
And Dr. Al-Rabeeah indicated that this aid constitutes 1.05% of the Kingdom’s gross national income, adding that with this percentage, the Kingdom would have topped the donor countries and exceeded the goal approved by the United Nations General Assembly in October 1970, which was for donor countries to allocate 0.7%. of its gross national income as official development assistance, while striving to secure innovative sources of financing development in developing countries.
He pointed out that the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Action is doing tireless work to register the Kingdom’s humanitarian and development aid in the Saudi aid platform launched by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in 2018, where the aid is documented in cooperation with the relevant Saudi ministries and agencies in order to highlight the identity of the Kingdom. humanitarian and developmental.
Al-Rabeeah appreciated the great efforts made by those authorities in documenting and recording the assistance provided by the Kingdom to the peoples and countries of the world through international platforms in accordance with internationally approved standards.
The forefront of international humanitarian action
He said, “The directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Prince Muhammad bin Salman, the Crown Prince, contributed to this great achievement that put Saudi Arabia at the forefront of international humanitarian action with all merit and entitlement.”
He explained that the Kingdom has been throughout its history and is still a giving country extending its hand with goodness to help the distressed and provide relief to the needy wherever they are, and it continues on the same noble approach that embodies the established values of the wise leadership of the Kingdom and its generous people, stressing that the exceptional and successive achievements of our dear country in this prosperous era are the result of a vision Ambitious Kingdom 2030.
