From a brain dead person… saving the life of a patient from acute liver failure in Asir


A medical team at Khamis Mushait General Hospital in Asir Health managed to contribute to saving the life of a patient at King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh.

This came through the hospital reporting the existence of a brain death case, after diagnosing it according to cerebral evidence, documenting it according to the national procedure in force in Saudi Arabia, and obtaining approval to donate organs from the relatives of the brain-dead.

Where coordination was made with the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation, after which a specialized medical team arrived in the Asir region, after the operating room and the necessary medical procedures were prepared to ensure safe and sound transportation of organs.

The liver transplant took about 14 hours, which contributed to saving the life of the patient, who was suffering from acute liver failure, and was under critical health care at King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh, and on the urgent list.
