Saudi “Ports” achieves an increase of 3.2% in handling containers during 2022
Saudi ports achieved an increase in the total quantities of annual handled tons of bulk “solid and liquid” and general cargo during 2022 by 13%, to reach 237 million tons, compared to 210 million tons in 2021.
During the year 2022, Saudi ports recorded an increase in the number of annual containers handled by 3.2%, to reach 10.355 million containers, compared to 10.035 million containers in 2021.
The total exported and imported containers reached 4.839 million containers, an increase of 5% compared to 2021, which recorded 4.628 million containers, and transshipment containers recorded 5.516 million containers, an increase of 2% compared to 2021, which achieved 5.406 million containers, according to the Saudi Press Agency, “SPA”.
And to enhance the food security system and meet the requirements of the local market, Saudi ports witnessed during the year 2022 the unloading of 3.930 million head of livestock, an increase of 9% from the year 2021, which recorded 3.620 million head of livestock.
The number of cars imported through Saudi ports reached 973 thousand cars, an increase of 25% compared to 2021, which recorded 778 thousand cars, and the ports also received 933 thousand passengers, an increase of 36% over the previous year, which witnessed the reception of 688 thousand passengers.
