A dispute over a piece of land ends in a massacre.. 9 dead and 3 wounded in Turkey
Nine people were killed and two others injured Thursday in a gunfight in southeastern Turkey triggered by a dispute over a plot of land, local authorities said.

“Unfortunately, eight of our compatriots lost their lives and three others were injured in the clash,” the official Turkish news agency Anadolu quoted Ali Ihsan So, the governor of Diyarbakir province.
And the authorities in the province announced later in a statement the death of one of the injured.

And she confirmed that clashes broke out between two families who dispute over the ownership of a 20-hectare agricultural plot in the Bismil region of the Kurdish-majority Diyarbakir province.
Pictures broadcast by Turkish media showed the bodies of six men in a harvested wheat field, and at least three of them were in possession of Kalashnikov rifles.
The DHA news agency said the situation worsened after one of the parties set fire to the disputed piece of land.
Land disputes are frequent in the provinces in southeastern Turkey, which are the poorest in the country and are still partly subject to a clan system.
