Using NASA imagery, we search for films of any format format – this means traditional narrative, experimental expressions, documentaries, comedies, dramas, animated pieces, surrounding visuals, video clips, in-set, in-set, in-set, interior, fiction – horror or horror stories and more.
The main thing is your short story of innovative and artistic narration, displaying mastery of filmmaking, editing and/or animation.
Last year’s winner, Waking Dream tells the story of a 30-year-old woman still living in the home who escapes her oppressive life by creating a fantasy world in which an astronaut corporation pretends.
Creators in Belgium, Isil Bengi and Laurens Heijs, received a cash award for their efforts and the film was subsequently shown at film festivals across the United States, as well as in schools, museums, libraries — and even aboard the International Space Station.
The finalists will be announced at the Houston Film Festival the following month.
Along with the Best Film award, an additional cash award is given to the creator of the film that best depicts the theme and inclusion, and another award for an educational film that effectively inspires young people to join STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) staff.
