US aviation unveiled a statue of the late NASA astronaut during a ceremony attended by local officials and school children in the area, where a memorial to Sally Ride, the first American woman to fly into space, was announced at the facade of the Long Island Beach Museum and Astronomy.

The statue captures Ride as she moves forward while carrying a model spaceship into the sky.

The statue was also created by sculptors, brothers George and Mark Loon of Colorado, working with fellow artist Joey Beiner.
