The reason why the mountains of Makkah are green
Hameed Al-Dosari, advisor to the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification, told Al-Arabiya.net: The reason for the greenery of the mountains of the Makkah region is due to the successive rains over a long period of time, and most of them are light but continuous rains, and it is known that the effect of continuous light rain is better than heavy rain. The rapid and heavy rain, as the light rain irrigates the land and does not flow, and the heavy rain sweeps the ground and descends from it, so it dries quickly and does not grow, and the vegetation is confined only to the places where water collects in the depressions.
Al-Dosari pointed out that the second reason is the atmosphere suitable for plant growth, as these days the weather is neither hot nor cold, as it is the best in which plants grow, and the third reason is the existence of an old stock of seeds among the rocks in the mountains that did not find an opportunity to grow in previous years, and now the opportunity has become prepared for it, God willing.
This is how the mountains of Mecca became
As Awni Obeid, an environmental activist interested in wildlife, pointed out that this phenomenon is normal, if the rains become heavy and continuous, the annual plants become abundant, and vice versa.
He added: These rains came during the marking season, which is the season of germination and planting of trees and plants, and after that the rains continued, making the region green as if it were the meadows of Switzerland, just as the climate in the world is witnessing strange changes, which is a life cycle, and this shows us that the Arabian Peninsula was Meadows and rivers in the past, where these plants were continuous due to rain and mild weather, and the mountains were green and the current valleys are rivers that flow in rainy times, and from the nature of the desert it passes through rainy periods and dry periods, and perhaps the current climate change has a clear impact on weather fluctuations and abundance of rain, Where we find quantities of snow in the north and unprecedented annual amounts of rain.
