Jordan.. 8 charges against the killers of public security men

The Jordanian State Security Court has started the trial of 9 people in the case of the killing of Brigadier General Abdul Razzaq Al-Dalabeh, Captain Ghaith Al-Rahahleh, Second Lieutenant Moataz Al-Najada and Corporal Ibrahim Al-Shaqarin in Al-Husseiniya district in Ma’an, southern Jordan.

On December 19, 2022, the Public Security Directorate announced the death of 3 Public Security employees and the injury of 5 others, during a raid, after the investigations conducted by the investigation team in charge of the killing of Brigadier General al-Dalabeh led to the suspicion of a group of brothers who carried takfiri thought.

The Military Public Prosecution charged the nine defendants, one of whom is a fugitive from justice, with 8 counts, namely, carrying out terrorist acts that led to the death of a human being with participation in violation of the provisions of Article 1 and in the context of Articles (7 / b / 1) and (7 / f) of the Prevention of Terrorism Law No. 55 for the year 2006 and its amendments for the first, second, fourth, fifth and sixth defendants.

The charge of belonging to a group with the intention of committing terrorist acts against the citizens of the Kingdom was charged in violation of the provisions of Article (3/d) and in the context of Articles (7/c) and (7/f) of the same law for the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth defendants.

The charge of possession of weapons with the intent of using them to carry out terrorist acts with participation contrary to the provisions of Article (3/f) and in the context of Articles (7/c) and (7/f) of the same law for the first, second, fifth, seventh and eighth defendants, and carrying out terrorist acts that resulted in causing damage by any means Transferred jointly, contrary to the provisions of Article (2) and Article (7/a/1) and in the context of Article (7/f) of the same law for the first, second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth accused.

The charge of carrying out a terrorist act that would disturb public order, sow terror among people, intimidate them, and endanger people’s lives, contrary to the provisions of Article (147/1) and in the context of Article (148/2) of the Penal Code No. 16 of 1960 and its amendments for the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth defendants. And the ninth, the charge of joining terrorist and armed groups contrary to the provisions of Articles (3/c) and (7/c) of the Prevention of Terrorism Law No. 55 of 2006 and its amendments for the seventh and eighth defendants, and promoting the ideas of a terrorist group contrary to the provisions of Article (3/e) and in the context of Article ( 7/C) of the same law for the seventh and eighth defendants.

The charge of conspiracy with the intent to carry out terrorist acts was also charged contrary to the provisions of Articles (7/g) and (7/i) and in the context of Article (2) of the same law for the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth defendants.

Accused: “Not guilty”

The court asked the defendants about the charges against them, and they answered that they were not guilty. The court decided to try the accused fugitive from justice in absentia, and the Military Public Prosecution requested that it be rescheduled for the next session to present the witnesses of the Public Prosecution.

The court heard the defendants’ defense attorneys raise their defenses, and the court decided to hold the next session on July 4.

A special security force surrounded the whereabouts of the suspects. Immediately after the start of the raid, one of them fired heavy bullets from an automatic weapon at the force, and the rules of engagement were applied, killing 3 officers and members of the force, wounding 5 others, and killing the terrorist shooter.

On March 13, 2023, the Attorney General of the State Security Court, Colonel Military Judge Abdullah Al-Fawwaz, transferred the case file related to the killing of Brigadier General Abdul Razzaq Abdul Hafez Al-Dalabeh, Major Ghaith Qassem Al-Rahahleh, Lieutenant / 1 Moataz Musa Abdel Hadi Al-Najada, and Sergeant Ibrahim Atef Al-Shaqarin from the salaries of the Public Security to a security court The state, in preparation for proceeding with the trial procedures in accordance with the rules.

The raid led to the arrest of 9 other persons suspected of involvement in the case, including 4 brothers of the murdered terrorist who shot at the force, and three other sons of one of them, along with two other persons who were with them. They were seized with a group of automatic firearms and a large amount of ammunition.
