The European Union threatens to punish countries that help Russia circumvent sanctions

On Friday, the European Union threatened to impose sanctions on countries that help Russia bypassing the penalties.

As the European Council announced, the European Union, as part of the 11th package of sanctions, expanded the list of high-tech and military goods prohibited from transit through Russia.

The European Council said in a statement on its website: “Today’s decision prohibits the transit of more goods and technologies that could contribute to Russia’s military-technical improvement or the development of (its) defense sector, as well as goods and technologies that can be used in the aviation and space industry, through Russian territory.” “.

“The European Union has extended the ban on the supply of luxury cars to Russia to include all new and used cars with an engine capacity of more than 1,900 cubic centimeters (1.9 liters), as well as all electric and hybrid cars,” the statement added.

The statement indicated that “the European Union extended the ban on the transportation of goods to the European Union by (Russian) road transport to include trailers and semi-trailers registered in Russia, including when transporting them by trucks registered outside the Russian Federation.”

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced earlier that the eleventh package of sanctions against the Russian Federation aims to combat the measures taken by Russia and partner countries to overcome Western sanctions.

The European Commission said the measures it proposed as part of the 11th package should ban trade worth 11.4 billion euros a year.
