8 dead and 17 injured in a tragic traffic accident in Algeria

Eight people were killed and 17 others injured in a traffic accident that occurred in Bordj Bou Arreridj, east of the Algerian capital. According to local media, the accident was caused by a derailment of a passenger bus.

The bus collided with the steel barrier separating the highway, killing 8 people and injuring 17 others, some of whom were in serious condition.

Pictures and videos circulated on social media showed that a passenger bus was severely damaged as a result of the collision.

“The fatal accident occurred in the late hours of Wednesday morning,” said Lieutenant Colonel Khadim Koueider, commander of the Information and Traffic Coordination Center at the National Gendarmerie Command.

He pointed out that “the accident occurred at the level of the east-west highway in its part linking Bordj Bou Arreridj towards Algiers.”

The Algerian authorities opened an investigation into the incident. While the authorities urged drivers to abide by the laws and drive carefully.

Hundreds of people die every year in Algeria due to traffic accidents.
