She added that her country considers the statements and positions of the British authorities and the recent sanctions as illegal and intrusive.

The Iranian move came shortly after Britain announced Thursday that it had imposed new sanctions on Iran and prepared a bill that would give the government additional powers to target decision-makers in Tehran because of their “hostile activities”, whether these activities are in the United Kingdom or abroad.

And last April, the British government announced the imposition of additional sanctions on the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, as part of new restrictions on Tehran linked to human rights violations.

The then foreign minister said in a statement: “The Iranian regime is responsible for the brutal suppression of the Iranian people and for exporting bloodshed around the world, so we have more than 300 sanctions imposed on Iran, including the entire Revolutionary Guard.”

New penalties

It is noteworthy that widespread protests in Iran erupted due to acts of violence attributed to the authorities, following the death of Iranian Kurdish Mahsa Amini at the age of 22 on September 16, 2022, after she was arrested by the morality police for violating strict dress codes.

British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly told the House of Commons that since then, the Iranian regime has greatly increased its attempts to silence the opposition, which were not limited to Iranian soil.

He added that in response to these Iranian activities, the government intends to adopt a new sanctions regime that will give it new and enhanced powers to counter the hostile and destabilizing activities that Iran is carrying out in the United Kingdom and around the world, which will allow us to impose asset freezes and travel bans on more Iranian decision-makers, according to the statement. .
