The television published footage that it said was of the forces storming Nablus, where it was stated that the Israeli army sent military reinforcements to the city, and surrounded a house in the eastern neighborhood of the Old City, calling on a young man to surrender.

The official Palestinian News Agency also quoted security sources as saying that an Israeli special force stormed the Habala neighborhood in the Old City of Nablus, followed by a large number of army vehicles that stormed the city from several axes.

The agency said that the Israeli forces are now in the vicinity of the Old City.

Soldier killed

It is noteworthy that the Israeli army said yesterday that a Palestinian gunman shot dead an Israeli soldier near a settlement in the occupied West Bank, in an attack that Hamas said it carried out in response to an Israeli operation that lasted two days in Jenin.

The Israeli army said that the attacker opened fire on forces who stopped to search his vehicle, which aroused suspicion near the Kedumim settlement, adjacent to the city of Nablus.

It is noteworthy that the two-day Israeli operation in the West Bank is the largest in years, as the escalating violence caused international concern.

The Israeli army said it targeted infrastructure and weapons stores belonging to militants. At least 12 Palestinians were killed in the operation, in addition to one Israeli soldier.
