The United Nations accuses the Houthis of continuing to restrict the movements of the “UNMHA” mission

UN blamed Houthi group By continuing to obstruct and restrict the movements of the (UNMHA) mission and not enabling it to exercise its duties in supervising the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in Al-Hodeidah Governorate, western Yemen, and preserving the “civilian” ports.

A report issued by the Security Council, ahead of the vote on renewing the mission’s mandate scheduled for tomorrow, Monday, said: “The annual review of the Secretary-General of the United Nations Mission in Support of the Hodeidah Agreement (UNMHA), which the members of the Council received in a letter dated June 12, indicated that one of the biggest challenges facing The mission’s effective operation continues to face restrictions on their freedom of movement and movement imposed by the Houthis.

The review confirmed that these restrictions imposed by the Houthi group on the “UNMHA” mission limit the ability of its patrols to implement the 2018 Stockholm Agreement and assess the civilian character in the ports of Hodeidah, Salif and Ras Issa, which are under the control of the group “independently and comprehensively,” according to the “Yemen Future” media platform. .

She explained that the Houthis did not allow the UN mission to reach the areas south of Hodeidah, since the forces of the recognized Yemeni government withdrew from it in November 2021, with the exception of one visit by the head of the mission, Michael Berry, on the first of last February.

On the other hand, the review praised the Yemeni government’s cooperation with the mission and its facilitation of its movements, and said: “Despite these challenges facing the mission, it has made progress in expanding its presence on the front lines under the control of the government side in Hodeidah.”

Tomorrow, Monday, the UN Security Council will hold a voting session on a draft resolution to extend the United Nations Mission in Support of the Hodeidah Agreement for an additional year, ending on July 14, 2024.

The United Nations Mission to Support the Implementation of the Hodeidah Agreement (UNMHA) was formed in late 2018, according to a UN resolution, to support the Stockholm Agreement concluded between the Yemeni government and the Houthi group to spare the city of Hodeidah and neutralize it from the conflict.

The mission has been working since then to support the implementation of the agreement, which included a cease-fire in Hodeidah, and to supervise the redeployment of forces in the city and ports of Hodeidah, Salif and Ras Issa, but the stumbling block is still the master of the situation, in light of the Houthis’ refusal to implement the terms of the agreement, according to the accusations. legitimate government.
