The Joint Chiefs of Staff condemned the launch as a “major act of provocation” and a violation of UN Security Council resolutions.

“We are analyzing the details, but we estimate that they fell outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone, east of the Korean Peninsula,” she said in a tweet.

The launch of the two missiles is part of a series of missile tests by Pyongyang at a time when South Korea and the United States have strengthened their defense cooperation with the escalation of tensions between Seoul and Pyongyang.
