With water hoses.. Iraqi security forces disperse protesters in front of the Swedish embassy

After a fire broke out, the Iraqi riot police used water cannons to disperse protesters in front of the Swedish embassy on Thursday morning in Baghdadwhich was burned on the eve of a gathering in front of the Iraqi embassy in Sweden, whose organization intends to burn a copy of the Qur’an.

The security forces used water cannons and electric sticks to push the protesters away from the embassy and disperse them.

Again in less than a month

While the protesters threw stones at the security forces.

These developments came after a number of people stormed the Swedish embassy in Baghdad, at dawn on Thursday, and set it on fire.

This came in protest against the Swedish police’s agreement to organize a protest outside the Iraqi embassy in Stockholm in order to burn a copy of the Qur’an again in less than a month, according to “Agence France Presse”.

Hundreds of protesters stormed the Swedish embassy in Baghdad in the early hours of Thursday morning and set it on fire, while other clips showed dozens of men climbing the fence surrounding the embassy compound, and some tried to break down the front gate.

Sweden denounces and Iraq comments

It is noteworthy that the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs had condemned the burning of its embassy in Baghdad on Thursday, and held the Iraqi authorities responsible for protecting diplomatic missions and their employees.

The ministry said that the attacks on embassies and diplomats constitute a serious violation of the Vienna Convention, stressing its rejection of all attacks on diplomats and staff of international organizations.

On the other hand, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry issued a statement condemning the attack, without explaining how the raid took place, or identifying its perpetrators.

The ministry said that the Iraqi government assigned the competent security authorities to conduct an urgent investigation and take the necessary security measures to uncover the circumstances of the accident, identify the perpetrators and hold them accountable according to the law.
