Republicans began calling for impeachment of US President Joe Biden after the release of a classified FBI document detailing his alleged involvement in an international bribery scheme linked to Ukraine and the Ukrainian company Burisma.
According to Fox News, Republican Senator Chuck Grassley released the FBI’s Form FD-1023 detailing how Biden, along with his son, Hunter Biden, forced Burisma CEO Mykola Zlochevsky to pay them millions of dollars in exchange for their help in firing the Ukrainian prosecutor investigating the company’s cases.
Grassley said he issued the document so the American people could “read this document for themselves, without filtering from politicians or bureaucrats.” The document in question is an FBI-created Form FD-1023, which the senator obtained through legally protected disclosures by whistleblowers in the Justice Department, according to the senator’s office.
Republican Representative Jim Banks wrote, commenting on the document, “These are the greatest corrupt families ever to live in the White House! He must be impeached!”
Republican Representative Lauren Boebert wrote, “Read and understand how deep the corruption is. Biden must be removed from office. He must be impeached!”
Former Arizona gubernatorial and conservative candidate Carrie Lake has suggested the president is guilty of “extortion” and “treason” in addition to bribery, and alleged that former President Donald Trump was impeached for Biden’s “crimes.”
Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Green tweeted, “Is this why Biden got America involved in the war in Ukraine??? Joe Biden is criminal and endangered! He is leading us to World War III because Ukrainian President Zelensky has evidence of more Biden crimes,” and continued, “Republicans can no longer delay but we need 218 Republican votes to do so. I’ve been there since day one and so are the American people. Impeach Biden!!!”
For her part, Republican Representative Anna Paulina Lunack called for Biden to be impeached before the document was issued, and wrote that he “needs to be impeached” because of the “evidence and testimony” that she saw as a member of the House Oversight Committee investigating the Biden family’s financial affairs. “He’s been compromised and his son is selling him access rights,” she added.
Republican Representative Pat Fallon tweeted, “This is overwhelming evidence that Biden was swayed. Remember when the Democrats and their cronies in the media went so far as to ask if this document really existed?”
Representative Andy Barr, a Republican from Kentucky, announced that “the epic corruption of the Biden family continues.”
Republican Representative Lisa McClain of Michigan pledged that the House Oversight Committee would hold Biden accountable, while Representative Jason Smith, of Missouri, told Fox News, “There are some significant concerns that our president may be endangered for the benefit of a foreign government.”
On the other hand, White House spokesman for oversight and investigations Ian Sams said, “It is remarkable that Republicans in Congress, in their eagerness to go after President Biden regardless of the truth, continue to push allegations that were debunked years ago.” “The allegations were said to have been examined by Trump’s Department of Justice, a US investigator appointed by Trump, and an entire impeachment trial of the former president centered on these very cases, and time after time they were found to lack credibility,” he said.
