music: ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’ From Disney’s Encanto Tops Billboard Hot 100

Disney’s Encanto took the world by storm when it was released in November 2021. It is driven by a great story and a phenomenal soundtrack. That soundtrack is reaching unprecedented heights, which is saying something about a Disney film. The song ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’ has climbed all the way to the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. In the process, it has dethroned Adele’s ‘Easy On Me’ as the top dog.

This is only the second time a song from an animated Disney movie topped the charts, joining ‘A Whole New World’ from Aladdin. Even more impressive is that the Encanto soundtrack is holding down the No. 1 spot for the Billboard 200 list. The fact that this stems almost entirely from people streaming the album is a remarkable feat. Sorry, Frozen.

‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’ is also the first Lin-Manuel Miranda track to be atop the Hot 100. Think about how much everyone listened to the Hamilton soundtrack. It was everywhere. Now think about how many MORE people had to listen to Encanto for all this to happen. Absolutely bananas.

Hopefully, this Billboard domination is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Encanto and Lin-Manuel Miranda. With Academy Award nominations coming soon, we’ll know for sure. Lin-Manuel deserves an EGOT and I’ve got a feeling this is the year.
